'Monster Hunter Generations' Review: Classic Hunting Game Returns With A Flourish
Jazz RosinThe "Monster Hunter" series has long captivated the hearts of players everywhere, luring both experienced and new hunters into its rich gameplay and top-notch replayability.
The latest title in the series, "Monster Hunter Generations," is no different, bringing the classic gameplay back along with other new features and tweaks.
Let's take a look at what the reviewers say about the game.
Destructoid has given the latest "Monster Hunter" title an almost perfect score, stating that this is the best title they have played in the series.
There are tons of quests to keep hunters busy, both offline and online. The game also features some of the best monsters ever as "Monster Hunter Generations" is geared to please veteran hunters and newbies alike.
Not all of the changes were great, however. Framerate seems to drop from 60 to 30fps during some of the Hunter Arts animations, with the camera zooming in the character.
While this is a step back from "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate," it is a flaw that hunters wouldn't particularly care about.
Polygon praised the fact that the latest "Monster Hunter" title is welcoming to newcomers, something that the previous titles didn't seem to offer.
Newbies will be able to dive into the game as "Generations" is notably easier to pick up and play than the previous titles. With the introduction of Hunting Styles, online session experiences are now as unique as ever, offering a completely new gameplay style in every battle.
"Monster Hunter Generations" is described as a "stellar step forward" to the franchise's future, and is a great addition to an already impressive lineup.
The Guardian gave "Monster Hunter Generations" a perfect score, saying that it offered a familiar template to fans of the game while bringing something new to the table.
"Generations," on top of being a brilliant game, has "incalculable longevity," with its many quests, weapons and monsters.
The life of a hunter is definitely not for everyone, but once you've chosen this path, there is no turning back; and eventually you'll find yourself wasting hundreds of hours in the vast world of "Monster Hunter Generations."
