'Pokémon GO' News: Pokéfans Claim To Catch Mewtwo, Mew, Legendary Birds
Jazz RosinSome "Pokémon GO" players have claimed that they have caught Legendary Pokémon Mew and Mewtwo in the game, despite reports that the elusive monsters are not even in the game yet.
A "Pokemon GO" player in Sydney, Australia claimed that he was attacked by thugs after catching the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, according to Buzzfeed.
The player, who only gave his first name Jason, claimed that he was playing the popular augmented-reality game on Tuesday evening with friends when they spotted the rare Pokémon in the park.
"Later in the night a friend caught a Charizard and people were cheering and going crazy," Jason told Buzzfeed. "Then a friend said something about a strange looking Pokémon on his app. Before we knew it I had caught the Mewtwo."
Shortly after, Jason claimed that a "rather bulky guy" tried getting his phone and even tried punching him, but he got away with the help of his friends.
"They wanted to try and steal the phone [with the Mewtwo on it] and sell it," Jason said.
However, the picture Jason supplied Buzzfeed looks like it was photoshopped, as the Mewtwo on the picture looks strikingly similar to the Mewtwo model used in "Super Smash Bros. 4."
Another trainer has claimed that he has caught the Mythical Pokémon Mew. 19-year-old Corey Selby posted on Twitter that he caught it, but was then quickly called out by fellow Pokémon trainers.
Nintendo News, which was apparently duped by Selby, posted the news online and even conducted an interview with the prankster.
After being warned that the story is fake by fans, the site quickly realized their mistake and hit back with a cheeky article titled, "How to Catch a Fake Mew [Trainer] In Pokemon GO"
As of this writing, the Legendary Pokémon, Mewtwo, Mew, and the three Legendary Birds, have not officially appeared in "Pokemon GO."
So if someone tells you they've caught a Mew, Mewtwo, or even a Zapdos, then there's a pretty good chance of it being false.
The majestic creatures' names are included in the game's source code, which however, means that fans will be seeing them in game soon, most likely during Niantic Labs' special events.
