"Spider-Man" fans were caught off-guard last week when Insomniac Games revealed new information about the new PlayStation4 (PS4) game's release date. Recently, a retailing video game website GameStop claimed that "Spider-Man" will finally hit the store shelves on Dec. 26, 2017.

The release date news was alluring to many fans, but it was also met with a bit of wariness. Not long after the news made noise in the online world, Insomniac Games was keen to dismiss the claims and stressed that there is no official release date announcement just yet.

"That's a placeholder. No release date right now," Express quoted an Insomniac spokesperson as saying, responding to a screengrab of the GameStop release date listing. "All we said was there was no release date... Likely not going to announce one anytime soon."

One fan then speculated that the new "Spider-Man" game would not likely launch for another two years. Insomniac Games again quickly responded by saying that it will not take two years to do so and urges fans across the globe to "just stay tuned."

"Who said it was 2 years away? Just stay tuned," an Insomniac spokesperson added. "We're still working on it and can narrow it down closer."

Insomniac Games made a splash when they announced that they are developing an all-new "Spider-Man" game at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Along with the announcement, a brief in-game engine demo trailer, showcasing a Spidey sporting a one of a kind outfit and an extensive, white spider symbol on his chest, was unleashed.

Earlier reports noted that the new "Spider-Man" game will not be available to the PlayStation Vita, adding the claim that it is exclusive to the PS4 console. In a tweet, Insomniac Games confirmed that the new title will be exclusive to PS4.

The PS4 exclusive "Spider-Man" game follows a more seasoned Peter Parker, who will need to balance his chaotic personal life and career. It is expected to feature a massive open-world gameplay in New York, wherein Peter Parker uses his web swinging and parkour aptitudes to move around the city to fight a slew of criminals.
