'Pokémon Go' Live-Action Movie Release Date: Detective Pikachu To Begin Filming In Early 2017; Will Ash Appear?
Vivian E.Detective Pikachu is coming to the big screen. Latest reports revealed that Legendary Entertainment just secured the rights to a Pokémon movie and is banding together with the Pokémon Company to produce the first live-action Pokémon film franchise.
The anticipated movie would be based on Detective Pikachu, a new character in the Pokémon universe. Though details on the plot and story of the character are highly being kept under wraps, Variety has learned that the live-action film will be fast-tracked to begin production in early 2017.
The anticipated live-action film will most likely follow a boy named Tim Goodman, who is paired with an irritable Pikachu, keeping in mind the end goal to gather evidence and solve a slew of mysteries. Universal Studio will handle worldwide distribution in all territories aside from Japan, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
However, it remains to be seen who will compose and direct the anticipated live-action movie. Speculations are rife that Max Landis, 30, whose previous projects include "Victor Frankenstein" and "American Ultra," might pen the Detective Pikachu script.
"Rumors of me being attached to Pokemon in some respect were true and real," Landis wrote. "So you don't have to ask: I have zero involvement in any kind of Pikachu detective movie."
