Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Launch Delayed Till end-April: Why?

Vamien MacKalin

Still waiting with bated breath to get your hands on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2? You better be prepared to wait a little longer. In February, Samsung announced that the Galaxy Tab 2 will be released in March. However, due to unknown events, Samsung has pushed back the launch date to the end of April.

The delay could very well be because of the recent launch of the new iPad from Apple. Samsung wouldn't stand a chance launching its Galaxy Tab 2 tablet devices (both the 7 and 10 inch versions) close to that of the new iPad launch. It would have been harakiri if Samsung had launched its tablet device, close to the new iPad's launch. By delaying, the company can focus more on launching and advertising than on what Apple is doing.

However, that's just our assumption. A Samsung representative stated that the company needed more time to work on the Galaxy Tab 2 to make sure it plays well with Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich. The problem could be that Ice Cream Sandwich does not work that well with Samsung's own TouchWiz UI, which wouldn't be surprising.

The 7-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will sport a 1GHz dual core processor, 3-megapixel camera, 8 to 32GB internal storage, and 1GB RAM. The bigger and better version is the one running around with a 10 inch display. This bad boy will feature the same processor as the 7 inch but will instead have a 1280×800 PLS screen resolution and from 16 to 32GB internal storage.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has decent specifications, but with such a long delay, we hope many potential buyers who have been waiting for the new device, won't jump ship or else Samsung would be in deep trouble where trying to compete with Apple and other Android manufacturers are concerned.
