The film adaptation of Insomniac Games' popular video game franchise "Ratchet & Clank" will be released on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD in August.

The movie will be available on Digital Download from Aug. 2 and on Blu-ray and DVD from Aug. 23.

Based on the popular game franchise, the movie follows the story of unlikely hero Ratchet, voiced by James Arnold Taylor (the voice of Tidus from "Final Fantasy X"), and his sidekick Clank, voiced by David Kaye (the voice of Logan Carter from "Dead Island").

Insomniac Games helped with the movie's production, screenplay, animation and character development. The film was released in Apr. 29, 2016 in North America.

Unfortunately, despite the star-studded voice acting cast and Insomniac's help, "Ratchet & Clank" did not do well in the box office, grossing only a total of $12.5 million worldwide.

Production company Rainmaker Entertainment announced an impairment charge on their $10 million investment in the film.

"We are obviously disappointed with the North American opening release results," Rainmaker Entertainment admitted. "The huge success of The Jungle Book, and continued strength of Zootopia, represented a loss of a large portion of the family market."

"Although support from the Ratchet & Clank fan base has been positive, the turnout for the film was not sufficient to overcome the highly competitive market place for the opening weekend of the film." the company added.

This might mean that other countries such as Australia will no longer see the film on the big screen and would have to opt for the home release versions instead.

"Ratchet & Clank" received mostly negative reviews from critics. The movie only got a rating of 17 percent on film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 66 reviews

The movie adaptation also got generally unfavorable reviews from critics on review score aggregator Metacritic, earning a low score of only 29 out of 100.
