'Tom Clancy's The Division' Movie Casts 'Prince of Persia' Star Jake Gyllenhaal
Jazz RosinUbisoft will launch yet another movie adaptation for one of their popular game franchises. This time, it's for the third-person online shooting game "Tom Clancy's The Division."
According to an announcement on the official Ubisoft blog, the popular shooter game will be getting a full blown action film soon by the publisher's film studio Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
The publisher has also announced the names of two of the actors who are signed on to star in the film.
The first lead role in "The Division" goes to established award-winning actor Jake Gyllenhaal, known for his breakthrough performances in "Brokeback Mountain," "Donnie Darko," and "Nightcrawler."
It is interesting to note that "The Division" is not the first Ubisoft game to movie adaptation Gyllenhaal has starred in. The actor has also starred in the 2010 film adaptation of "The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" as Dastan.
Gyllenhaal has also taken the role of a U.S. Army pilot captain in the critically-acclaimed sci-fi thriller movie "Source Code."
The second name to be included in "The Division" film is Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain. The actress is known for her role as Central Intelligence Agency officer Maya in the action-thriller film "Zero Dark Thirty."
Ubisoft confirmed that their roles will go beyond acting as they will be a part of the development process through their own production companies, Chastain's Freckle Films and Gyllenhaal's Nine Stories Productions.
"The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism," the post on the Ubiblog said, "but we'll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore."
Apart from "The Division," Ubisoft Motion Pictures have other video game titles lined up for movie production.
The much awaited film adaptation of "Assassin's Creed," starring Michael Fassbender, will be hitting the big screen in December. Ubisoft also has "Splinter Cell," "Ghost Recon," "Watch Dogs," and "Rabbids" movies currently in production, according to Gizmodo.
The upcoming "Tom Clancy's The Division" film will certainly be an action-packed movie experience. Watch out for more updates.
