'Samurai Jack' Season 5 News & Updates: Series Creator Teases What's In Store Next Season; Release Date Slated In Late 2016?
Vivian E.Exciting things are in store for the upcoming "Samurai Jack" season 5. Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky, 46, revealed that the upcoming season will be much darker compared to its predecessor.
Tartakovsky teased a bit about what fans will see next season to IGN. According to Tartakovsky, "Samurai Jack" season 5 will have more mature elements and a cohesive story.
The series creator revealed that "Samurai Jack" season 5 will not have an immediate connection between its predecessors. Instead, it picks up many years after the end of the original series, following Jack on his new adventure that will eventually conclude the story of the series.
He goes on to say that the forthcoming fifth season will be a bit darker and have a more episodic story with a whole lot new of action that is "just as badass as it's always going to be. Probably even more."
"I think we're going to see [Jack] in a new light because we're going to see him from a different standpoint," said Darrick Bachman explained. "In the original series, he was the very heroic person on a very rigid quest. Now we pick up with him an it's many years after the fact and he's a little bit lost. So it's a story of redemption and him trying to find who he is again."
In an 8-minute preview, the show's production team confirmed that there will be a great deal of changes in the upcoming season. Art director Scott Wills expressed that the cartoon will be more intense than ever.
As for Jack's physical appearance, character designer Craig Kellman uncovered that Jack will now somewhat more elegant, somewhat more heroic and a little less cartoony. He noted that the team wanted to maintain the original show's art with the help of today's digital technology.
It can be recalled that Tartakovsky first made a splash in December 2015 when he confirmed that "Samurai Jack" season 5 is in development. Along with the announcement, the series creator then shared a new concept art on his Instagram account.
