Microsoft Surface Pro 4 vs Huawei Matebook Review: Do Power And Performance Beat Price And Branding?

C. de Lacy

Microsoft is well-known for being the maker of Windows and its well-received, highly innovative Surface Pro 4 tablet. But how does the Huawei Matebook fare with competition?

Here are some of the comparisons between the Huawei Matebook and Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that will help any consumer decide which to pick between the two.

Display and Screen

Both have a rough 12-inch display, but the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 gains the advantage over clarity by having a higher resolution of 2736 x 1824, around 20 percent bigger and clearer than the Matebook's 2160 x 1440.

However, this isn't to say that the display of the Matebook is bad at all. In fact, both tablets have a very good display resolution, more than enough to show good quality images.

Processor Choice

The processor on the Huawei Matebook Pro is powered by a 6th Gen Intel Core M3 processor, which also has an M5 variant. This somewhat limits what the tablet can do, especially on video editing applications where at least an i5 or i7 processor is prefered.

Fortunately, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has i5 and i7 variants, which makes up for the competition.

GPU and Gaming

Due to the limitations of the processor, the Matebook is only limited to an Intel HD Graphics 515 IGD. The Surface Pro 4, however, has better options to choose from, especially the i7 variant, which has Iris IGD or Intel HD 540.

The video below shows the performance of how some games perform on the Surface Pro 4:

Meanwhile, the Matebook isn't specifically intended for gaming, but it can still be an apt gadget for everyday use.

Price

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 price starts at $777 on Amazon currently for the i5 variant and could go up to $1,550 for a full blast specs of an i7 processor, 256 GB storage and 16 GB of RAM.

The Huawei MateBook price starts at around $748.99 on Amazon with 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB storage and Intel Core M3. There's also an M5 variant priced at around $999.

For those looking for a powerhouse tablet, the M5 variant of the MateBook may be a good option, but for those who would like to do more like video editing and mid-gaming. The Surface Pro 4 might be a better option for a couple of hundred bucks more.
