Electronic Arts' Rent-a-Server program is making a comeback, this time for World War I-themed shooter "Battlefield 1." Here's everything you need to know about it before the game's release later this month.

What Is A Rent-a-Server Program, Exactly?

The Rent-A-Server Program allows anyone to set up their own public and private servers and customize its in-game rules, gameplay options and map rotations, creating a customized playing field for the players.

This has been made available on PC for a long time now, and was first launched on consoles with "Battlefield 3," according to VG 24/7.

What Has Changed?

The servers for this program was previously handled by a third-party provider, but Electronic Arts has now confirmed that they will be taking charge of the servers for "Battlefield 1."

"We think this will benefit you in several ways," the publisher said on the official "Battlefield" site. "First off, we will be able to secure the quality of the actual hardware. Since the servers come from the same provider, it will give everyone the same uniform experience."

"Furthermore, if you have questions or need help, you will be able to reach out to EA Support directly instead of third party support," Elecronic Arts added.

How Can We Get Our Own Servers?

The Rent-A-Server program will start after "Battlefield 1"'s launch. Players will be able to rent their own servers through the in-game store.

What Should We Expect?

Since Electronic Arts has direct access to the servers, players should expect a better experience compared to when third-parties were in control. This also means that players will be able to reach support more efficiently through Electronic Arts' own support team.

Electronic Arts also promised more content to be added to the program after launch.

"We might restrict number of game modes available at launch and gradually enable them based on feedback and other circumstances," the publisher said,"but you can expect that we'll keep adding customization options and UI design throughout 2016."

More details about the Rent-A-Server Program will be announced as the release date of "Battlefield 1" draws near. The game launches on October 21, and those who are EA/ Origin Access members will be able to play a portion of the game before the actual launch date.
