'Battlefield 1' DDoS Attackers Finally Arrested; Will The Hacks Finally End?
C. de LacyThe group that call themselves the "Lizard Squad" and "Poodlecorp" are now behind bars. Two prominent members of the hacking group have been finally arrested. Will these unhealthy cybercrime practices start fading now?
These minors have threatened the online community and fans of "Battlefield 1" that after causing problems with the beta release that was launched last month, they will still be at it on the game's official release on October 21.
Based on a report from Digital Trends, two members of the hacking group, which are still minors, recently got arrested. These two members are known as Zachary Buchta from Maryuland and Bradley Jan Willem van Rooy from the Netherlands.
The two individuals are from the infamous group called Lizard Squad and PoodleCorp, two myterious groups well-known for launching DDoS attacks and even stealing credit card information. Both were arrested as a part of an international operation and were charged of conspiring with others to pull off cyber attacks.
Four domain names that are believed to be associated with the group have also been seized by the federal officials. They are: shenron.lizardsquad.org, lizardsquad.org, stresser.poodlecorp.org, and poodlecorp.org.
The two conspirators are facing up to 10 years behind bars based on the charges that they were accused of as DOJ indicated. The two were also said to be responsible for a scam site called phonebomber.net, which lets people pay for others to be threatened over the phone without exposing the real number of the caller.
Those who weren't able to play the beta game, especially those who have highly anticipated the release, are glad that those responsible for the attacks have already been caught by the authorities. This leads to the community believing that other hacking groups may follow suit or avoid attempting to do the same stunt in the future.
This isn't just good news for "Battlefield 1" as this would also affect the other games, services, and the global gaming community.
