Google dropped the Nexus name this year by recently launching its new variants of smartphones called Pixel and Pixel XL. Below we have pitted the Google Pixel against the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones, which will help you to choose the best buy option out of the three.

To start with, the newly launched Google Pixel is touted to be the sleekest and most durable compared to the two Nexus phones. It sports a metallic chassis with glass panels and a fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, the Google Nexus 5 consists of a plastic back panel and a glass front chassis. However, the Nexus 6 features a metallic chassis with a more stylish design as compared to the other Nexus variant.

In terms of display, the Google Pixel features a 5.0-inch screen with AMOLED display and 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution onboard. Also, the new smartphone is also touted to provide the users with a special night reading mode, which does not consist of any blue tones in the display. While, the Nexus 5 sports a 4.95-inch screen and IPS LCD sharp display panel and 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution, the Google Nexus 6 excels with a 5.9-inch screen and AMOLED display panel with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution.

When it comes to the performance-related specs, the Google Pixel surpasses the other two phones with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and 4 GB RAM and 32 GB, 128 GB option of internal storage onboard. The Google Nexus 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor with 2 GB RAM and internal storage option of 16 GB and 32 GB, the Google Nexus 6 sports a quad-core Snapdragon 805 chipset and 3 GB RAM and 32 GB, 64 GB storage capacity options.

Furthermore, the Pixel device consists of a 12.3-megapixel rear and an 8-megapixel front camera with dual-LED flashlight. On the other hand, the Nexus 6 features a 13-megapixel primary camera with a 2-megaixel secondary camera and the Nexus 5 has an 8-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front camera onboard.

As far as the software specs are concerned, the Google Pixel excels with the latest version of the Android 7.1 Nougat OS, against the Nexus 5 and 6, which run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

Moreover, the Google Nexus 6 beats the other two devices in terms of battery specs with its huge 3220 mAh battery, which provides around 24 hours of talk time. The Pixel smartphone sports a 2770 mAh battery while the Nexus 5 consists of a 2300 mAh battery.

Lastly, the Google Pixel has been made available for $649 for the 32 GB variant whereas the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 are priced for $349 and $649 respectively.

To sum up, the Google Pixel and the Nexus 6 phones can be the closest competitors because of their excellent processor, camera, software, and huge battery specs. However, choosing a device will depend on your specs requirements and budget factor.
