'Dragon Quest Builders' vs 'Minecraft': Do We Finally Have A Contender?
C. de LacyThere's no doubt the one of the world's most famous game is "Minecraft." With the base game alone offering tons of features, mods also make the experience even deeper that it originally is. "Dragon Quest Builders" might be the title that RPG makers have been longing to see with the same mechanics.
Square-Enix, originally Enix's series, "Dragon Quest," is also a hard hitting game on several console generations. With the newest spinoff title "Dragon Quest Builders," another worthy addition to the long list of "Minecraft" themed games, things get more interesting.
On top of the expected open-world sandbox nature, "Dragon Quest Builders" also has quite a number of quests that is absent with "Minecraft," especially the vanilla versions. "Minecraft" only offered a procedurally generated world were the players are given total freedom to create and do what they want.
"Dragon Quest Builders" provides basically the same thing and more. Kotaku even dubs it as a "guided Minecraft." Getting lost in "Minecraft" is very easy and more often than not, players and newcomers tend to start over again, making the game less appealing to some.
"Dragon Quest Builders" provides all the guides needed to start and actually does it better than "Minecraft" do. This provides players with more knowledge of the game's building mechanics without constricting too much.
Also, unlike "Minecraft," "Dragon Quest Builders" puts players into the shoes of the prophesied "Builder" whose task is to restore the land. Aside from this grand quest with actual storyline, there are also a number of tasks that needs to be done, errands to be run and tons of monster to slay and defend the towns from.
While "Dragon Quest Builders" doesn't exactly have that same exact charm that made "Mincraft" a cult classic, it still offers so much content and freedom that it could easily be one of the best, if not the best, "Minecraft" clones out there.
"Dragon Quest Builders" is already available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VITA.
Be sure to stay tuned for more news, tips, secrets guides on "Dragon Quest Builders."
