Samsung Takes 'GTA 5' Note 7 Bomb Mod Seriously And Forces YouTube Video To Be Shutdown
C. de LacyThe Korean giant behind a number of successful and well-received smartphones, Samsung, is pretty much in the highlight of shame right now with the Note 7 explosions and eventual recall. Now, a YouTube video containing a "GTA 5" mod about a Note 7 bomb might have irked Samsung amidst the issues.
Despite the success of the previous handsets, especially the recently released Galaxy S7, Samsung takes a nose dive with the Galaxy Note 7. As reported by Redmondpie, a YouTube video containing a demo video of a "GTA 5" mod using the Galaxy Note 7 as an explosive weapon or bomb, was requested to be pulled out. The request was made by none other than Samsung itself.
Unfortunately, the video is not available to be viewed anymore, let alone an image or thumbnail, but a glimpse can be seen here.
YouTube user HitmanNiko created the mod for "GTA 5" for the PC, which uses a model of a Samsung Note 7 which can be used as a throwable explosive. While it was around the internet for quite a while and had a lot of downloaders from Nexus, the idea somewhat offended some folks from Samsung apparently.
Surprisingly, Samsung made a request directly to YouTube to have the video removed in order to erase any memory left of what the Note 7 was about as presumed by a number of fans, communities and news outlets.
For those who have bookmarked or still have the link to the video will get an error message on the YouTube page saying that the video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and its affiliates.
To a lot of people, even those not exactly fans of the game, this is one way of improperly using DMCA due to the fact that nothing was exactly copied. Its debatable whether Samsung's reasoning for requesting the video to be put down due to the bomb model looking like the Note 7 itself.
Still, fans and those who aren't exactly fond of the Note 7 still look at it as if this was one of Samsung's excuse to eliminate everything that has something to do with the failed Note 7.
