Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Update: 'Half-Life 2,' 'Team Fortress' Now Added To List
J RoseAnother update has been made to Microsoft's ever growing list of backwards compatible titles on the Xbox One, and one of these games will let users play the popular first-person shooter game "Half-Life 2" on their current-gen console.
As announced by Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb on his Twitter account, three new titles have made it to the backwards compatibility list. Most notable among the new additions is video game compilation "The Orange Box," which was originally released by Valve on Windows, Steam and Xbox 360 in 2007. A Playstation 3 version was released two months later.
"The Orange Box" includes five Source engine powered games, including "Half-Life 2" and its first stand alone expansion, "Half-Life 2: Episode One," both of which were already released prior to the compilation.
The three other titles include the second expansion of "Half-Life 2," "Episode Two" and "Team Fortress Classic" sequel "Team Fortress 2," but the surprise favorite of the compilation is popular first-person puzzle-platform game "Portal."
The sequel to "Portal," 2011 title "Portal 2," was already added to the list in June, while its standalone Xbox Live Arcade game "Portal: Still Alive" is still awaiting its turn to be backwards compatible.
Apart from "The Orange Box," another title, platform and racing video game "Joe Danger 2: The Movie" was also added to the list. The video game was originally released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, OS X, Linux and PlayStation Vita, and was developed by no other than Hello Games, the same developer who is now under hot water because of its other IP, "No Man's Sky."
The third title added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list is Namco Bandai's Xbox Live Arcade game "Galaga Legions." Originally released in 2008, the game was developed by the same people responsible for "Pac-Man Championship Edition."
