Go Pro Hero 5 Black vs Session Review: Which Action Camera Prevails?

The GoPro added another variant to the Hero 5 family last October. The new GoPro Hero 5 Black ($399) and the GoPro Hero5 Session ($299) have plenty of updated features. However, there are several important areas where they differ.

The new feature of the Hero 5 includes a waterproof body, which can operate safely at depths of up to 33 feet without the need for a separate underwater housing. It also includes 4K video with image stabilisation and voice-activated control.

The Hero 5 Session is much smaller in external dimension than Hero 5 Black and also weighs less. The single biggest difference between the two models is the inclusion of a new 2-in touchscreen in Hero 5 Black. But both cameras are really pretty small anyway.

It comes with two control buttons and a small LCD at the front which are much trickier to operate than the touchscreen of the Hero5 Black, but both models can be controlled wirelessly via a smartphone app which helps get around the fiddly controls on the Hero5 Session.

The Hero5 Black uses a removable and larger 1220mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery than the 1000mAh version of the Hero5 Session, which is non-removable.

Both models come with a USB-C socket. The Hero5 Black also adds a micro HDMI connector. Both come with a microSD card slot supporting Class 10 or UHS-I rated cards, or those marked with the 'Works with GoPro' logo. Both models also support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Both new models now support voice control which can be used to take pictures and record video as well as changing settings.

The Hero5 cameras can also automatically upload photos and video to the GoPro Plus subscription-based service.

The Hero5 Black has a superior core camera specification to the Hero5 Session, including a higher resolution, 12 megapixel sensor as compared to the 10 megapixel version in the Hero5 Session. It also supports and faster capture, resulting in higher maximum frame rates for smoother video. Hero5 Black images can be geo-tagged with the inclusion of GPS.

In general, the Hero5 Black does everything the Hero5 Session can do, but with higher quality and more flexible options. However for a budget friendly camera, Hero5 Session is also a good option due to its small size. You can visit GoPro shop to buy one and know more details.
