The late co-founder and former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, was personally involved in designing the sixth-generation iPhone, presumably called the "iPhone 5," which is expected to sport a bigger size than the regular iPhones, reports Bloomberg.
According to the report, which did not reveal its source, Jobs "worked closely on the redesigned phone before his death in October."
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a source from within Apple's foreign supply chains in Hong Kong, Apple has ordered "bigger screens" from LG Display Co., Sharp Corp. and Japan Display Inc. for its next iPhone adding that the phone will be "at least 4 inches diagonally," compared to that of the 3.5-inch screens of other prior iPhone models.
Reuters has also made a similar claim that Apple will launch a new iPhone that will "measure 4 inches from corner to corner" and that the company has already placed orders for the latest displays from suppliers in South Korea and Japan.
While the Android phones are incrementally increasing the size of their smartphones to catch up in the race, the next iPhone should also increase the display size, believe experts.
Samsung, Apple's biggest competitor, recently launched Galaxy S3 and the phone can be the biggest rival for the iPhone 5 once it is released later this year. The new Galaxy phone sports a monstrous 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display and another Samsung phone Galaxy Note also come with a gigantic 5.3-inch display and both of them provide superlative viewing experience. Therefore, Apple should also consider increasing the display as that will give better viewing experiencing using the "resolutionary" Retina display.
iMore editor-in-chief Rene Ritchie, who has been regarded a reliable predictor of Apple devices, said in April that the iPhone 5 would retain its original 3.5-inch screen, recently posted an article on how Apple can make the screen bigger without harming existing applications, causing compatibility problems and annoying stakeholders.
According to various reports, Apple's next iteration of the iPhone is due by October and will pack in some amazing features like crack-proof glass, 3D camera, advanced haptics, 3D object recognition, iOS 6, a variant of A5X processor, Near Field Technology (NFC), iWallet, Multi-player gaming software and iTunes gifting platform.
