Microsoft Surface Phone Latest News: New Breakthrough Feature, Capable Of Running Full PC Windows Installation?
Gio C.With the Surface brand developing its growing line of desktop computers, Microsoft's last hope in the smartphone market, the Surface phone, may feature some of the most advanced technology exclusive to the device.
Microsoft reportedly registered the domain name surfacephone.com - a big implication that the device is on its way, but the company is still mum about any details regarding it. The Surface Phone was once hinted by Microsoft's Chief Marketing Officer Christ Capossela as a serious iPhone contender.
Furthermore, Microsoft is also said to be working on a new project that would let full, x86-64 versions of Windows 10 run on a smartphone ARM processor, and is expected to be finished by the end of 2017.
If this project comes to life, possibly with Microsoft's Continuum technology, users may be to use the Surface Phone as a fully-functional computer, by just plugging in an external display, keyboard and mouse.
This project would make a big impact on its rival iPhone, at least for large businesses, as the professional industry is still using software written for PC rather than smartphone apps. The feature may also be a very big selling point for users who want a fully functional, extremely small form factor PC.
The technology behind the feature is similar to game console emulation: "tricking the OS that it runs on a PC rather than on a smartphone." Of course, it has its drawbacks, like increased waste heat output. Battery usage, however, would not be an issue since Continuum mode already requires the device to be plugged in before it can be used.
Other features of the Surface Phone may include a next-generation display-embedded finger scanner, up to 8 GB of RAM, an Intel-based processor, a 20-megapixel Carl Zeiss rear camera, and, possibly, liquid-cooling technology.
As of press time, there are no confirmations of its release date, and Microsoft could be delaying its launch as Intel's chips are getting developed.
Stay tuned for more news and updates regarding the Surface phone.
