‘Gintama’ Season 8 Release Date Set On Jan. 8; Live-Action Movie Cast In Costume Revealed
Gio C.With its interesting storyline and memorable parody scenes, the eighth season of the "Gintama" anime series is slated for a broadcast premiere one week after the new year clocks in.
According to the Anime News Network, the new anime series will switch to a late-night timeslot and will premiere technically on January 9, 1:35am in Japanese TV channels TV Tokyo, TV Hokkaido, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting. Meanwhile, TV Osaka will have a delayed broadcast premiere at January 10, 1:05am.
All of the broadcast information came in from TV Tokyo's official website for the "Gintama" anime. The late-night timeslot is a significant change, as earlier seasons of the "Gintama" anime were broadcasted on a 6:00pm timeslot.
Although there are no announcements made as of press time, it is possible that Crunchyroll will also simulcast the upcoming season to the Western audience, a similar move with their earlier season simulcasts.
Meanwhile, three advertisement posters for the upcoming live-action "Gintama" movie have been revealed, Crunchyroll says. The posters feature the main cast in their respective roles and dressed on their impressive-looking costumes.
The main cast consists of Shin Oguri as Gintoki Sataka, Masaki Suda as Shinpachi Shimura, and Kanna Hashimoto as Kagura. Directed by Yuichi Fukuda, who previously directed live-action "Kamen Rider" movies, the "Gintama" live-action movie will have a tentative release date of Summer 2017 in Japanese theaters and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Written by Hideaki Sorachi and consistently ranked among the top-selling manga for several years since 2004, "Gintama" is regarded to be one of the most popular franchises in Japan. The series has since been spawned several anime seasons, two animated films and various OVAs.
The manga is currently on its 66th volume, and has already entered its final arc in July - signaling the nearing end of the main storyline.
