Spam texts or messages can certainly be annoying. What is even more annoying, however, are spam calls. Luckily, those who are subscribed to the United States-based mobile carrier, AT&T, can now finally block these annoying and unnecessary calls, thanks to the company's recently launched mobile application called Call Protect.

According to the report from PC Mag, AT&T first rolled out its mobile app Call Protect last Tuesday, Dec. 20. And it is now available to download for free on Google's Android and Apple's iOS operating systems.

It is, however, important to take in mind that the mobile app is only applicable for smartphones from the mobile carrier - and probably for its subscribers. Meaning, it won't run on handsets from other carriers like Verizon or Sprint, to name a few.

Another important detail that fans should note is that the app will only work if the user is within the carrier's HD Voice Coverage area in the U.S.

What does AT&T Call Protect mobile app do?

As said by the source above, it is basically like an email filter system but it's for calls instead of messages. It will warn the user if the incoming call is a potential spam call which can then be blocked using the application. The feature is somehow similar to how the call blocking feature of Android.

Users who'd like to download the app must first have an Android version of 5.0 or higher, as listed on the Google Play Store. Meaning, those who already have the Android 7.0 Nougat OS can now install the app without any worries.

As for the Apple OS, however, the application requires an iOS 9.3 version or higher before it could be installed on the handset.
