HTC X10 & HTC 11 Update: Smartphone-Maker May First Analyze Sales of Mid-Range Handset Before Releasing HTC 11
Ritwik RoyIf latest reports are to be believed, there is little chance for HTC 11 to be released soon as the company is focusing on the release of its mid-range device, HTC X10. It is expected to be released in January 2017 with a 5.5-inch full HD display with screen resolution of 1080 X 1920 pixel resolution. The device could be powered by a 3GB RAM, Mali-T860 GPU and a MediaTek Helio P10 processor.
According to Slash Gear, mobile phone manufacturers are experiencing a slowdown in sales and that includes Apple and Samsung. Year 2016 hasn't been that great for the smartphone brands and HTC is among them. The HTC X10 may not boast the best of specs but its 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization is a rarity in mid-range devices. It will run on Android 7.0 Nougat but won't feature a fingerprint scanner.
As per DigiTimes, HTC is likely to ship only 10-12 million smartphones in 2016 as its shipments to Europe, USA and China are decreasing rapidly. In 2015, HTC shipped 18 million units. Hence, the company may be first analyzing the success of the HTC X10 first and then release a more premium device like the HTC 11. The company will reportedly keep the price of the mid-range device around $290.
If biggies like Samsung and Apple are finding it difficult to sell their devices, imagine what will happen to the smaller players. Leaked photos of the HTC X10 show smooth rounded edges as opposed to sharp flat chamfered sides of the HTC 10 and its siblings. Meanwhile, the HTC 11 specs, features and release date have not been announced by the mobile maker though it is expected to carry a Quad-HD display.
