A new superhero in a cape is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2017 courtesy of DreamWorks. "Captain Underpants" is a forthcoming animated film, which is based on the popular book series of Dav Pilkey.

An exclusive first look image of "Captain Underpants" was furnished by DreamWorks to Entertainment Weekly. The first photo shows a huge guy standing with his hands on his hips with a big smile wearing a cape in front of two kids who are laughing.

The animated film tells the story of the two mischievous fourth graders George Beard (Kevin Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch). The forth graders try to hypnotize their tyrannical principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms) to strip off and try a curtain around his neck and proclaim himself as the newest defender of the Earth.

"[Helms] has managed to tap into the sheer stupidity of "Captain Underpants," director David Soren told EW. He also added that Helms is a delusional superhero who believes that he has all types of powers and has a literally zero skill as a middle-aged man.

According to Comic Book, "Captain Underpants" had several villains to choose from with its 13 books throughout the series and 3 spin offs but has finally settled on Professor Poopypants, which is voiced by Nick Kroll. Soren went on to say that with that name, he must be irresistible.

Soren also added that since the books are best known for being cheeky and genre-bending style, the movie plays with a similarly form, switching between the usual CG animation and other media, from hand-drawn 2D comic scenes to sock puppet sequences. The movie is directed by David Soren, which is based on a script written by Nick Stoller (The Muppets).

The series also won a Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Award on April 4, 2006 and as of this year, the series had been translated into more than 20 languages. It has also sold over 70 million books globally.
