Former 'Final Fantasy XV' Character Designer Reveals Why It Took 10 Years To Create The Game

Fans of "Final Fantasy XV" are no newbies to the fact that game took 10 years to develop. Starting as a spinoff entitled "Final Fantasy Versus XIII," it turned into the game that people are loving now. But, what exactly happened?

Apparently, "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" was only 20 to 25 percent done. The character designs weren't even fully established. This was what director Hajime Tabata revealed during an interview with IGN.

"Final Fantasy XV" started around three years ago. "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" was still being developed during that time with Tetsuya Nomura directing the game. However, the directorial position was then transferred to Hajime Tabata and the "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" was then rebranded to "FFXV." They have also moved the game to newer consoles: Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Apart from director Tabata's revelation, a former character designer of the game also revealed what happened behind the game development. WCCF Tech translated the Facebook post of character designer Roberto Ferrari. On his post, he talked about the disarray that happened in the studio.

"They're highly disorganized. Our staff (200 suffering souls) had to work on 'FFXV' while the story still had to be finalized. In 2013, the story changed every three months or so and the game's release date had been scheduled for December 2014," Ferrari posted. He has since left the development team of the game. But he was able to design characters like Gentiana, Aranea Highwind, Ardyn Izunia and more.

Ferrari also mentioned that his characters had been changed when he departed. He claimed that his Gentiana has a different gown. There were also some characters that had been removed from the game.

As of now, Ferrari is working on the remake of "Final Fantasy VII." However, he was not able to discuss the subject freely. All that was disclosed was that he is mostly working with reimagining existing characters from "FFVII." Stay tuned for further developments.
