'World of Warcraft' Evolution: The Game Evolution Between 'WoW' Vanilla & 'WoW' Legion
Keisuke AkioThe "World of Warcraft" set the benchmark for MMORP games when it released in 2004. The game also set the custom on what modern MMO must be.
Over the years, "World of Warcraft" subscriber number haves wavered. However, the majority of the games today still aspire to, at least, have a fraction of the game's success. Today, we are traveling down memory lane and taking a glimpse into how the game has developed over time and how it piles up to the shadow of its earlier self.
Between 2004 and 2010, the first half of "World of Warcraft's" life was made up of the base game popularly known as vanilla. Moreover, the game had the first three expansions namely "Burning Crusade," "Wrath of the Lich King," and "Cataclysm." Legion, on the other hand, is "World of Warcraft's" newest expansion, which brings the latest pieces of stuff including the famous artifact weapons from "WoW" lore, a fresh Demon Hunter class, and home bases where classes hang out together.
In "Burning Crusade" and "Cataclysm," flying everywhere was augmented, as well as a group of gateways in major cities like Orgrimmar and Stormwind, to terminuses all over the game world. Nowadays, you can hop onto your flying mount to bypass any inconvenient mountain. In addition, Group Finder tools made it easier to look for other players to play with. The Group Finder can teleport you when you want to raid or join a dungeon. In Legion, however, it only takes a few minutes to move around "WoW's" giant continents.
The vanilla "WoW" involved harder work but has better rewards. The early expansions were filled with legendary weapons that were unbelievably rare. Raid groups of forty people get together to defeat potent bosses to acquire a weapon that only one person could use. Those few who won their rare and hard-earned trophies accepted them with pride.
On the other hand, in Legion, everyone is given a legendary weapon right at the start. "WoW" has also made it laid-back to raid minus having a guild. You can play without working with friends, you earn a lot of things but the difficulty is not like that of vanilla. In Legion, that sense of satisfaction achieved from hard work was gone, says, Kotaku. Legion is a homecoming to WoW's origins while keeping the best features Blizzard developed over the years. From a lore standpoint, we witnessed the return of major characters with fresh eyes. We acquired new challenges, new weapons and better ways to experience this game.
