The latest episode of "Sister Wives" season 8 shook the Brown family to the core in festive ways. Mariah Brown has just revealed that she identifies as a lesbian. Here's how her family reacted.

Mariah Brown revealed on the New Year's episode of "Sister Wives" that she is gay. While her family looked shocked after the big revelation, it appears that the Browns have finally settled down. In an interview with PEOPLE, the "Sister Wives" and patriarch Kody Brown reacted to the big revelation.

Sister Wife Janelle

Janelle says she's "just happy" that Mariah finally figured out who she is. For Janelle, it's a great thing that their child has finally come out and took the courage to speak up regarding her gender preference.

Sister Wife Christine

One of the "Sister Wives," Christine, is not worried at all about how the world would react to Mariah and how the college girl will respond to the world. Christine says the family "congratulated" and "hugged" Mariah Brown after she made the big announcement. Christine believes that Mariah most people will accept their child for who she is since she's confident in the choice that she made.

Polygamist Kody Brown

Kody is the dad of a huge family. With 18 children and four "Sister Wives" to care for, he may have been affected largely with his daughter's reveal. Kody clarifies in his statement that he still hangs on to his faith. CBS News notes that Kody's religion, Fundamentalist Mormonism, is one that does not tolerate homosexuality. However, Kody says that as a father to Mariah Brown, it is his job to "love and respect" and not judge the decisions that his daughter makes.

Mariah Brown Speaks Out

Finally, it's time for Mariah to open up about the experience of coming out as a lesbian. She tells the outlet that she did have second thoughts about making the announcement for her dad and the "Sister Wives" to hear. However, she knew that she may no longer be able to come out if she didn't do it then.

For Mariah Brown, what she did on television was worth it. She says that she understands not every person in the world will accept someone who comes out as gay. However, she wants the people planning to reveal their true selves that "it's okay."

"Sister Wives" season 8 airs every Sunday on TLC. Follow Mariah's story as she goes to college with a strong mindset, now that she has received the blessings of her family.
