NOLO VR Is An Affordable Positional Tracking System For Mobile VR Headsets
S. TurlaLYRobotix's NOLO VR was created by a team that is dedicated to making virtual reality technology available to people from various backgrounds. The affordable tracking system makes VR technology accessible to users who are new to the world of VR.
According to Road to VR, NOLO VR is "an intriguing Lighthouse-like positioning tracking system." The device is capable of "room scale" positional tracking and motion control when used with mobile VR headsets. LYRobotix also claims that the device is SteamVR compatible thanks to remote play through Riftcat's VRidge software.
Touted as an "intriguing" add-on, the NOLO promises to make mobile VR headsets capable of positional "room scale" head. It will also include motion controllers for any Android-powered VR headset with a latency of less than 20ms.
LYRobotix's NOLO is made up of a headset "marker," a base station and two wireless and tracked motion controllers. The controllers have buttons, triggers and trackpads that appear to be inspired by the HTC Vive's SteamVR controllers.
The company offers a cheaper variant of a VR headset compared to other options available in the market today. NOLO VR works well with SteamVR, and thanks to Riftcat's software VRidge, users can broadcast their VR experience in real time on a gaming PC to the headset. NOLO will also allow users to relay input back to the PC.
However, this could result in lower quality image data that could be compressed at the source at it is sent through wireless networking via the headset. Still, LYRobotix's NOLO combines onboard IMU data and Lighthouse-like tracking with one base station, along with an ultrasonic system, has technophiles eager for more from the device.
For interested tech fans, the LYRobotix team has confirmed that the newest prototype of the NOLO will be showcased at next week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES). LYRobotix also revealed that the NOLO VR will be available for only $99, and those who wish to order the device on their official website can take advantage of a special discount.
