When the DC Extended Universe was announced, "Shazam" was one of the very first movies that were confirmed to be part of it. Three years after the announcement, DC fans are still waiting for updates regarding the film.

To date, it remains unclear whether filming for "Shazam" has gotten any progress. For so long, the only piece of information that the public knew about the film was that Dwayne Johnson was chosen for Black Adam. As reported by Cinema Blend, The Rock accepted the anti-hero's role because he liked the backstory.

"I love that he starts off as a slave, that he felt like he was wronged," Johnson said. "I think that Black Adam has always been, to me, the most intriguing superhero."

Black Adam was a slave who wanted to take revenge for the abuse of his people. After gaining power from Shazam - either accidentally or purposely - he set forth to seek justice for the people of Kahndaq.

Black Adam may be the antagonist in "Shazam," but it is only because his method of keeping humanity safe clash with that of Shazam - formerly known as Captain Marvel. Although it is his mission to fight for those who are wronged, other DC characters oftentimes view his means as too brutal.

In addition to The Rock, Cosmic Book News has reported that Brandon Molale might have just been chosen for Shazam. As it would turn out, the actor has actually been petitioning Warner Bros. for the said role for almost 10 years. During the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con, Molale was recorded telling the audience that the actor most fitting for Shazam was either himself or The Rock.

His social media post hints that he might have finally landed the role. "Today, I had the conversation I have been waiting nine years to have," he wrote on Twitter. "You [WB and DC Entertainment] can typecast me forever as Shazam. It would be an honor to play Captain Marvel."
