The Brydge 12.3 Detachable Keyboard Lets You Use the Surface Pro as a Laptop
S. TurlaThe Surface Pro 4 is Microsoft's "ultra-thin tablet and laptop," but when bought at retail stores, it regrettably doesn't come with a keyboard accessory. The Brydge 12.3 will change all of that as using it with the Surface Pro 4 lets you have a more "Surface Book-like experience."
Digital Trends recently reported that while Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 doesn't quite cut it as a laptop substitute, the Brydge 12.3 can give technophiles a Surface Book substitute that is easier on the budget. While the Surface Book costs more since it comes with premium features, it is not as easy to use as a tablet like the Surface Pro 4.
At CES 2017, the Brydge 12.3 was an Innovation Awards Honoree in the Tablets, E-Readers, and Mobile Computing categories. With the detachable keyboard, users can enjoy built-in storage, an all-aluminum build that guarantees protection for the accessory and an 180-degree viewing angle that is achieved through a patented "U" shaped hinge which allows for a notebook-like experience.
Although the Brydge 12.3 can't match the Surface Book's long battery life, but it does come with a rechargeable battery that can last for as long as three months, ensuring that the detachable keyboard won't drain the tablet's own power source. With its traditional notebook keyboard design, the Brydge 12.3 has 3 levels of backlighting. The accessory also sports a 5-inch touchpad that exudes a similar feel as a traditional notebook.
In a separate report by Laptop Mag, it was revealed that the Brydge 12.3 is 7.5 mm thick and that it "eliminates the need for the Surface's kickstand when typing." Slated for a Spring 2017 release, the Brydge 12.3 will cost $150. It was also revealed that there are plans to unveil a $250 model of the detachable keyboard soon. This pricier model will allegedly come with 128 GB of storage.
