After getting banned in U.S. and pulled from Google Play Store, Samsung Galaxy Nexus is hitting stores back next week. And this time, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will come pre-loaded on the smartphone.
A Google spokeswoman confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus will be available on the Play Store for online purchases next week. In addition, it will become the first smartphone to feature the latest version of Google's mobile operating system -Android 4.1 dubbed Jelly Bean.
Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh ordered preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Nexus, granting a motion Apple made in February. The injunction went into effect as Apple posted a bond of $96 million in order to pull the smartphone from shelves. Subsequently, the Galaxy Nexus was also removed from Google Play Store.
Samsung requested the federal judge to lift ban on sales of Galaxy Nexus in U.S, but the judge rejected Samsung's bid. After the ruling, Google told CNET that it is "working closely with Google to resolve this matter, as the patent in question concerns Google's unified search function."
Apple is accusing Samsung infringing on several of its patents with the Galaxy Nexus. Fortunately, the new version of Android operating system will help Samsung in bypassing the sales ban. As a result, Google is quite confident that it will resume selling the smartphone online at some point next week.
Not a long time ago, Samsung tried the same approach on Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Germany by introducing a slightly modified variant - Galaxy Tab 10.1N. Nevertheless, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is banned in U.S.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus originally debuted in October last year with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, while Google began selling it directly through the Play Store in April. At the moment, unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy Nexus is priced at $349.
