New Sanrio Hello Kitty Character Is Super Cute, Angry & Relatable -- And She's Just Like You [Watch]
Van DSanrio has a new character that people grew fond of immediately - Aggretsuko. The emotional red panda is quickly becoming a popular character among fans because they can easily relate to it.
Polygon revealed that Sanrio introduced Aggretsuko in spring 2016. The red panda is a Scorpio, quite emotional, full of angst and bullied at work. Aggretsuko spends her days as an office associate of Tokyo-based trading company. When the single, 25-year-old female character gets off from work, she unwinds through alcohol and karaoke, singing heavy metal songs.
Aggretsuko's realistic profile endeared her to many Sanrio fans around the globe. The mascot has actually been existent for almost a year, but the company's Twitter account re-introduced her recently, where she quickly gained thousands of social media fans worldwide.
Sanrio is known for its line of characters, namely Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Badtz-Maru, Little Twin Stars and My Melody, among others. Many social media users found Aggretsuko unique and relatable, because they may have seen themselves in some of the character's daily endeavors.
Social media users started using the hashtag #aggretsuko to share how much they can relate with the character. Some stated that the mascot's own experiences encapsulate their own life. Others liked how Sanrio's star also deals with stress through music and booze.
The red panda works in one of the biggest metropolitan areas of Tokyo, and it has always been Aggretsuko's dream to belong in the industry. However, no one respects Aggretsuko at work. Her bosses are unsympathetic and hand her unfair deadlines. Her colleagues also dump their tasks on her pile instead. She tries to cope after work by drinking and singing, similar to what many normal people do.
Sanrio is currently offering Aggretsuko merchandise for fans. In 2016, an anime based on the character also ran for 10 mini-episodes, which may be translated into English in the near future. There are also other characters in Aggretsuko's story, such as Director Gorilla, Secretary Washimi, and more. Overall, Aggretsuko represents the average individual, who tries very hard to put on a lovable appearance, while keeping a dark side. More updates and details are expected soon.
