Honda Civic Type R News: Honda Confirms It's Not Releasing CVT Civic Type
Shena GolosinoHonda will not release a CVT Civic Type. Rumors that the Honda Civic Type R will have a CVT version have been put to rest. Sage Marie, US Senior PR Manager of Honda, confirmed that the said model will not have a continuously variable transmission (CVT) version.
According to Auto Guide, the news was reported by CivicX, citing a report in the November issue of CAR magazine, which included an interview of senior Honda staff Mirsuru Kariya, Daisuke Tsutamori and Katsushi Inoue. The interview with the three revealed some details about the 2018 Honda Civic Type R. The car will feature a limited-slip differential, and a lower centre of gravity compared to the standard Civic. The Civic Type R will also come in front wheel drive only.
The Honda Civic Type R was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2016 and was originally made available with a six-speed manual transmission as Soichiro Honda intended it to be. However, rumours stated that the model will come in CVT transmission.
Civic Type R fanatics are highly anticipating the automatic transmission of the vehicle as it could battle against the Volkswagen Golf R which is equipped with DSG and also the automatic Ford Focus RS.
The new model was based on the Civic Hatchback but improved big time. According to Road And Track and Car And Driver, it has flared fenders, carbon fiber side skirts, carbon fiber diffuser, carbon fiber front spoiler with red highlights, 20-inch wheels with gloss-black alloy wheel wells with red accents and a rear wing. Up front, the car's façade has additional air intakes with diamond pattern mesh inserts, a functional hood scoop and smoked lenses while the back on the other hand still has the center-exit exhaust with three pipes
The Honda Civic Type R is expected to arrive in the US sometime later this year with a price tag of around $30,000.
