Fans of John Constantine will be happy to know that the TV show "Constantine" will be brought back by The CW as an online animated series according to a report by Digital Spy. Matt Ryan, the actor who played the role of Constantine from the live-action counterpart, will also return to voice lead character.

John Constantine is based on the DC character that was created in 1985. It's a story about a man who is haunted by his past sins and was unexpectedly put in a role of defending mankind from forces of darkness. In the live-action series that was developed by NBC in 2014, however, Constantine was a British exorcist who spends his days hunting paranormal beings. The show was canceled in May 2015 due to low ratings. After its cancelation, Matt Ryan reprised the role in a guest appearance in an episode of The CW series "Arrow."

The CW has resurrected the show to become an online animated series on CW Seed. Matt Ryan will also reprise the role to voice the lead character. The CW has ordered five to six episodes that consist of 10 minutes each. Additionally, the original "Constantine" is still available on CW Seed for streaming with 13 episodes.

According to a report by Hollywood Reporter, David Goyer, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will be the executive producers of the animated series on The CW's superhero lineup.

"Constantine" will join numerous lineups of DC properties on TV including "iZombie," "Gotham" and "Lucifer" from Fox, and "Preacher" from AMC. NBC is also releasing its first DC Comics, a comedy entitled "Powerless," which stars Vanessa Hudgens.
