Sony Is Shutting Down Live Viewr App On PS 3; No More Live Streaming & Pay-Per-View Events

Sony has recently announced that it is ending pay-per-view streaming for PS3 users. After January 10, the PlayStation 3 version of the Live Events Viewer wills no longer function.

Sony sent out an email on January 8, 2017 to those who had bought the app to announce that the PlayStation Live Event Viewer was being retired. As an alternative, there will be the option to purchase live events through the PlayStation Store. This ranges from free PlayStation related streams at E3 and PSX to PPV events like UFC.

The company has confirmed that the Live Events App will end on January 10, with live event videos as a substituteavailable for purchase directly from the PS store on PS4. The app was never released officially outside of the US. Sony, in addition, confirmed from the same day that the PS3 would no longer be receiving Live Events at all. This signifies that the company is gradually cutting off support for the console as it comes to its twilight years. This move only really affects those who have the PlayStation 3.

The Live Events Viewer app was introduced in 2013 for the PlayStation 3. Sony released the app for PlayStation 4 about a year later. The reason why the termination only affects PS3 owners is because those who own a PlayStation 4 can still purchase access to live events from the PlayStation Store -- so they don't really need the app anyway, says DualShockers. Owners of that PS3 will no longer be able to buy access to live events from the PlayStation Store. The only option for them is to purchase a PlayStation 4 first.

The Live Events Viewer application brings the best live events right into your living room. Users can enjoy watching their favorite sports, music and entertainment events in real time or on demand.
