Kuri The Real Live Robot Is Your Next Best Home Assistant
Jack PetersonKuri, a real live home robot made its debut at CES 2017 held in Las Vegas. Developed by Bosch independent subsidiary Mayfield Robotics, the 20-inch tall intelligent robot is said to be created with a focus on mobility, awareness and personality. It is a cute home companion who can intelligently help its owner in controlling several home gadgets.
The technology that allows the movement of the 12-inch wide robot was designed by a Pixar animator who aimed to make Kuri an "approachable, calming and inviting" assistant as reported by TechCrunch. The three-wheeled home assistant moves and follows its owners without running or hitting into objects because of an HD camera and sensors embedded inside its head. The HD camera is also engineered to recognize the faces of people it has already seen, Digital Trends reported.
What's more interesting is Kuri's ability to hear and respond made possible by its dual speaker and four-microphone array. It can actually hear its owner from anywhere in the house. Additionally, it is programmed with voice recognition and can respond to 12 basic commands, reportedly.
However, the real live home robot cannot speak like a real human just yet. Its technology is limited to sounds such as squawks so don't expect it to utter human words anytime soon. It also has an embedded LED light, which changes color that reflects its mood in addition to expressive eyes that it uses to respond to its owners.
Those who are interested in getting their hands on the newest technology from Mayfield Robotics can visit its website to process a pre-order now. With a price tag of $699, Kuri will be available at a later date, which could be on the holidays of 2017. The official availability date, however, is not announced yet.
