Android 7.0 Nougat Official Update Coming To Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge On Jan. 17 With Google's Security Patch
Vinay PatelEarlier this week, Samsung released an Android 7.0 Nougat update to a slew of its devices including the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge as a soak test. Now, a specific time frame for the official roll out may have found its way on the internet.
If reports running rampant online are anything to go by, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge owners will soon have something to cheer about in the form of an official stable build of Android 7.0 Nougat on Jan. 17.
Further cementing this claim, a report from The Android Soul shows a screenshot which coincides with the aforesaid schedule for the update. Regrettably, this update might be exclusive to European Galaxy S7 edge "SM-G935F" handsets, but fret not, a global release could be just around the corner.
Just ahead of the update's official rollout, the South Korean handset maker is sending out a Nougat soak test to its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets. Soak tests are ideally meant for users who are not well acquainted with the software.
A lot of users gets the opportunity to get hold of software that's still under wraps and see how it works. This is quite a crucial stage for developers as users may ferret out undetected bugs for them to exterminate, thus refining the software in the process.
The build G935FXXU1DPLR comprise the software update along with Google's security patch for this month. With the soak test going on full force, tech pundits are hazarding guesses that the global Nougat release for Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets could be in the offing.
As long as users taking part in the soak test do not encounter any sort of flaw in the software, Samsung is likely to release it sooner rather than later. In such a scenario, the aforementioned Jan. 17 rollout date could also come to fruition.
While most Galaxy S7 and S7 edge handsets will be upgraded to the search giant's latest OS version i.e. Android 7.1.1 Nougat, others, including Vodafone and Verizon Australia models will receive an older update, according to International Business Times.
It remains to be seen if Samsung rolls out the Nougat update in near future. Until the company officially confirms this, users should take this piece of information with a grain of salt.
Besides, even if the popular Korean handset manufacturer has an imminent rollout date fixed, there is a possibility that some unfavorable discoveries springing from the soak test might prolong the wait.
