Microsoft Store News: Lumia 650 and 735 Removed In The U.S. & U.K.; Lumia 950 & 640 Still Available
Van DThe U.S. Microsoft Store stopped offering the Lumia 650 and 735 and all their listings on the webpage have already been removed. In the meantime, versions of the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 640 remain.
Neowin reported that at the end of 2016, all Lumia handsets were sold out in the U.S. Microsoft store. The shop also did not email customers to notify when new stocks have arrived, hinting that the Lumia 650 and 735 will be phased out. The U.K. Microsoft Store also sold out all Lumia models in mid-December and has not restocked since. At present, only the Lumia 640 XL LTE, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL remain on the U.K. Microsoft Storepage.
Microsoft Store seemed to have made a strange decision in dropping the Lumia 650. The Lumia 650 is still relatively new. It is the latest Lumia, having launched in February 2016. The Lumia 640 XL, which is older by almost two years, is still available in both unlocked and AT&T versions. On the contrary, it is understandable for the Microsoft Store to drop the Nokia Lumia 735, since it is over two years old, having been introduced in September 2014. The handset is still available on Verizon Wireless.
ONMSFT stated that the U.S. Microsoft Store is currently offering the AT&T Lumia 950 (white) at $298.99, the unlocked Lumia 640 XL (white) at $149 at $50 off, the unlocked Lumia 950 (black) at $399, and the unlocked Lumia 950 XL (black) at $499. External retailers are offering the Lumia 550 and Lumia 650 at less than $110.
The recent change in the Lumia lineup indicates that the Microsoft Store is preparing to phase out the Lumia line, although some customers believe that it will not be removed altogether. Earlier in 2016, Microsoft sold its feature phone assets but stated that it will continue to develop its Windows 10 OS and support the Lumia brand and other related devices. Consumers who are still interested in purchasing the Lumia models dropped by the Microsoft Store can still avail from third-party retailers. These may also be offered at lower prices. More updates and details on the Microsoft Store are expected soon.
