Amazon's Alexa may just be the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) unit to have a soul, or so it seems. The AI voice activated assistant from Amazon has been getting raved reviews from different tech and gadget sites but the recent discovery posted on Eurogamer's twitter page may outdo them all.
In its twitter post, Eurogamer revealed that the Amazon's new Echo gadget is hiding a "Mass Effect" Easter egg. The game is of course the popular sci fi role playing game (RPG) from BioWare. The game trilogy was well received by the video game community resulting to a fourth a game for the "Mass Effect" franchise, the yet to be released "Mass Effect: Andromeda".
Twitter user, TheAlbionGirl, has confirmed the alleged easter egg. In the twitter post, user TheAlbionGirl propounded the question "Does this unit have a soul?" to Amazon's Alexa. The question, of course, is a reference to the popular question given by the "Mass Effect" geth character Legion and addressed to the AI's quarian creators. Alexa then responded with the question with, " Keelah se'lai my friend". This is a statement popularly used by the quarian race, particularly Tali, in "Mass Effect".
Video game fans of the popular RPG from BioWare will remember that both above mentioned lines are heard at the penultimate moment in the war between the Quarians and the mechanoid geths in the third "Mass Effect". During this exchange, Shepard, Tali and Legion was faced with a dilemma which ultimately led to Legion sacrificing himself to grant the geths consciousness.
The "Mass Effect" easter egg is said to be available in both Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo dot. The fourth installment of the "Mass Effect" game franchise, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will officially be launched on March 21 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC video game platforms.
