Google, LG Launching First Android Wear 2.0 Watches In February; LG Watch Sport, Watch Style Specs Unveiled [VIDEO]
Pia MerciGoogle has confirmed that it is planning to launch two new smartwatches, namely LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, highlighting its upcoming Android Wear 2.0 platform in the first quarter of 2017. It is having an allegedly Nexus-style partnership with LG as its third-party manufacturer.
The company will apparently launch the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport at a February 9 event. By the next day, sales will begin in the United States which will be followed by other countries through February and March.
The LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport are expected to feature circular OLED displays, a 4GB internal storage, an NFC for Android Pay Support and iOS compatibility. Also, it has a digital crown purposely for navigating the interface, which resembles the same feature found in the Apple Watch.
Moreover, the flagship waterproof Watch Sport will apparently pack a 1.38-inch 480 by 480 pixel screen, with a 768MB RAM, a 430mAh battery, and a heart rate sensor as well. It will be able to support a SIM card so it can work as a smartphone independently. Meanwhile, the slimmer Watch Style is water resistant, has a smaller 1.2-inch 360 by 360 pixel display, and alongside its 240mAh battery is a 512MB RAM.
Furthermore, both timepieces feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity while the Sport model includes a cellular connectivity (with both 3G and LTE data) as well as GPS and NFC radios. The second component allows the watch to take advantage of Android Wear 2.0's Android Pay capability as aforementioned.
Note that the Android Wear 2.0 is worth looking forward to as its updated OS will be bringing a handful of new features. These include a handwriting support, a full QWERTY keyboard, a dedicated app store, the ability for watchfaces to show info from other apps and Goggle Assistant.
The platform's latest version will also apparently roll out to selected smartwatches that are already available. It is expected that LG and Motorola's previous models will almost definitely receive the update.
