LG G6 Specs Will Not Include Modularity Following G5 Misstep, But Will Be Waterproof
Athena DeeThe LG G5, which was launched just last year, featured a gimmick that failed to catch on with consumers. Smartphones may have different features, but they all have relatively the same look. The G5’s design, however, was completely alien to the smartphone industry.
G5 owners could opt to get rid of its bottom, otherwise tagged as “chin,” for other phone parts that added a speaker or a camera grip. According to CNET, LG’s unusual approach to the smartphone’s design was part of its aim to make heads turn toward the G5. Unfortunately for the Korea-based tech company, it did not work.
Skott Ahn, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, they have to “follow customer acceptance.” “It was a meaningful test,” Ahn said. “Of course, we paid a lot.” In this context, Ahn’s use of the word “paid” can be regarded as both literal and figurative.
LG is quite famous on an international level when it comes to the manufacture of nearly every type of appliance. Its unique G5 design, however, proved to be a huge misstep. That said, LG is expected to veer away from the modular approach for its upcoming G6 smartphone.
Apart from ditching the modularity, the LG G6 is also expected to feature water resistance. Considering that its toughest rivals, namely, Apple, Samsung, and Sony, are venturing into the manufacture of water-proof mobile devices, it is only understandable that LG do the same.
However, instead of merely giving the device a water-proof exterior, it can be read on Trusted Reviews that LG implemented a different method. “Instead of water-proofing, we have put a much better screen,” said Chul Bae-Lee, the Vice President of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab. The VP then added that LG has completely put its “resources into that area, instead of just making it water-proof.”
