Nintendo Switch Won’t Be Region-Locked; Fans Unsure About Online Service
Ritwik RoyNintendo will be hoping that its Switch console performs way better than its Wii U. The Nintendo Switch gaming console is expected to arrive on March 3 though a recent live stream by Nintendo has divulged incredible details about the console.
It is known that Switch will have to face off against the likes of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The console, as the name suggests, can switch between home and portable console playing. Games such as "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Super Mario Odyssey" and also FIFA will truly make it worth enjoyable.
According to Mirror, the Nintendo Switch will cost $299 in the US. The launch bundle will reportedly include cables, switch dock, Joy-Con controllers and the main unit. Nintendo is also bringing online services to the Switch and will move to a paid model in autumn. It has been revealed that Switch, unlike most of the company's current consoles, will not be region locked. Thus, users will be able to import foreign games and games may be bought from all over the world.
The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers will launch in grey or red and blue. A specially-designed sensor will enable the controllers to detect the shape a hand is making when in use. For old-schoolers, a separate "Pro" controller will be introduced. The Switch will use cartridges like in 3DS instead of discs. This will also help in game portability. In portable mode, the Switch may provide 2.5-6 hours of battery life depending on the games played. The share function will allow users to record gameplay and share on YouTube or live stream from Twitch.
Third-party games are going to have a massive impact on the popularity of Nintendo Switch. Fans are requested to pre-order their favorite console. Business Insider has stated that the "Nintendo Switch Online Service" will take time to fully blossom. Certain gaming enthusiasts also believe that this online service will in fact become a turn-off for many as they will not get a new game every month. Instead, it will be a time-limited access to games.
