Reports circulating around the internet have stated that Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming film "The Emoji Movie" has added a renowned actor to its cast. Patrick Stewart will be voicing the Poop Emoji in the upcoming animated Sony film.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that at the Jan. 18 Sony Pictures Animation slate presentation, it was announced that Patrick Stewart will be joining "The Emoji Movie" cast as Poop Daddy. The upcoming animated film will feature the emoji Gene (T.J. Miller, "Rock of Ages," "Big Hero 6") who is unusual because he can make multiple expressions. Gene works with "notorious code-breaker" Jailbreak (Ilana Grazer, "How to Follow Strangers," "The Night Before") as they embark on "an adventure through a teenager's phone."

"The Emoji Movie's" cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge ("American Pie," "Legally Blonde") who portrays Gene's mother Mary Meh and Maya Rudolph ("Shrek the Third," "Bridesmaids") as Smiler. Jake T. Austin ("Hotel for Dogs," "Rio") will portray the human teenager called Alex.

The movie will also star James Corden ("One Chance," "Into the Woods") as Hi-Five, Steven Wright ("Coffee and Cigarettes," "Louie") as Gene's father Mel Meh,  and Rob Riggle ("Dead Rising: Watchtower," "Let's Be Cops") as the ice cream emoji.

The film's director Tony Leondis also talked about the film's premise. He said, "What is their story? Emoji are expected to be one thing their whole lives. So I thought, what if one was born with not one, but lots of expressions ... and how would that affect the status quo? Everyone has felt different - it's everyone's story." "The Emoji Movie" is slated for an Aug. 4 release this year.

According to The Guardian, "acclaimed Shakespearean actor" Stewart is famous for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the show "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Professor Charles Xavier/ Professor X in the live-action "X-Men" film series. His recent projects include "Logan," an upcoming film in the "X-Men" film series. He will reprise his role as Professor X, and he will star alongside Hugh Jackman, who stars as the titular Logan/ Wolverine.
