Anne Hathaway Controls A Kaiju In First 'Colossal' Trailer

Kaiju ("strange monster") is a Japanese film genre about huge monsters destroying cities. Now, reports reveal that Anne Hathaway stars in a movie about a woman who one day realizes she is somehow connected to a Kaiju wreaking havoc in Seoul.

According to io9, the upcoming film "Colossal" is about Gloria, portrayed by Anne Hathaway ("The Princess Diaries," "Les Miserables," "Alice Through the Looking Glass"), "a woman who realizes she can occasionally spawn a real-life giant monster halfway across the world that acts as her avatar, mimicking her movements."

The "Colossal" trailer starts off ominously with sirens going off in Seoul, then pans to Gloria who is on the phone with someone. She tells the person on the other end of the line that she just heard about the horrible monster attack in South Korea.

He then tells her that the incident she was talking about occurred nine hours ago. She struggles to recall goofing off and having drinks with some friends. The video goes on to show one of Gloria's friends talking about how odd the monster is, and that it acts as if it's being controlled by someone else.

Intrigued, Gloria watches footage from the attack and seems surprised that the creature seems to be mimicking her when she raised her hand. The last scene in the trailer shows Gloria with her three friends, one of whom laughs as the Kaiju dances in a video they are watching. Gloria then asks, "It's dancing like...?" Her friends are surprised to realize that the monster is, in fact, dancing like Gloria.

"Colossal" was directed by Nacho Vigalondo ("Timecrimes," "Open Windows"), and the film also stars Dan Stevens ("Vamps," "The Ticket") as Gloria's ex-boyfriend Tim, Jason Sudeikis ("Horrible Bosses) as Oscar, Austin Stowell ("Whiplash"), Tim Blake Nelson ("Bukowski") as Garth, and Simon Pegg ("Shaun of the Dead," "Paul," "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation").
