Huawei Watch 2 Release Date Set For March; Tipped With 4G Support & ‘Sportier’ Look
Arianne GiftHuawei's sequel to the original Huawei Watch released in March 2015 is reportedly ready, according to reports. The second generation wearable, dubbed Huawei Watch 2, is likely to feature a sportier look when compared to the original edition.
The Huawei Watch 2 is expected to have the same 1.4 inch display and classic styling. It will be available with stainless steel or leather straps. However, the second generation watch's key feature is said to be cellular connectivity, according to a report by Venture Beat.
Sourced from an insider, speculations are strong that the Huawei Watch 2 has a built-in SIM card that will allow data connections, should the wearer be out of Wi-Fi range or paired smartphone. The watch is said to make receive and make phone calls, as well.
According to the publication, the Chinese tech behemoth will announce the Huawei Watch 2 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona in February. To recall, the first generation watch was first unveiled at the said event, as well.
While the hype is immense for the Huawei Watch 2, it's not the only player in the wearables market. LG is also planning its own set of Android wearables, Android Central reported. LG has reportedly worked with Google to release its line of smartwatches, which will be called LG Watch Sport and Watch Style, powered by Android Wear 2.0.
These devices are expected to debut on February 9 when Google rolls out the Android Wear 2.0 OS for compatible devices. Google has just released the fifth and final developer preview of Android Wear 2.0, which has support for iOs, bug fixes, and other improvements to boot.
Mobile World Congress takes place from Feb. 27 to March 2, at which time the Huawei Watch 2 is expected to be unveiled. That said, what's left for fans of smartwatches and wearables is to wait and see.
