Citing the hype surrounding Samsung's next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, it is hardly surprising that the device has been subject to a slew of leaks.

One of the most prominent aspects of the design is the Galaxy S8's exceptionally thin top and bottom bezels on the front, which offers a colossal area to sport a large display in the same dimensions as that of its precursor, the Galaxy S7 edge. But a recently surfaced Forbes report points to a design, which may not quite sweep smartphone lovers off their feet.

First off, the screen area is going to be scraped off from the top to make way for Samsung branding that appears on the front. According to a tweet by tech tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks), the top 1/4-inch of the screen real estate will be hard-coded to display SAMSUNG.

If this comes to fruition, then it is outright misemploy of the screen area, especially since the company has strived to keep the top and bottom bezels as slim as possible. Another leaked features of the design that seem to have stirred conversation among smartphone lovers center on the fingerprint scanner placing.

Ideally, leading handset makers go for either a front or rear-mounted fingerprint scanner placement. However, if latest Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks are anything to go by, the S8's fingerprint scanner will be placed next to the camera module.

It is worth noting that this is not where a user's fingerprint naturally rests, meaning, the user would need to move his/her finger to right in order to activate the scanner and unlock the S8. This does not coincide with the natural center position of the fingerprint scanner on the rear side.

Blass claims that scanner will be placed above the camera module making it quite difficult for users with short fingers to reach it. Although both design concepts seem quite unwieldy, Samsung has neither confirmed nor debunked these leaks, but with the Galaxy S8's release date just around the corner, an official announcement could be in the offing.

As far as the Galaxy S8's release date is concerned, Blass points to a March 29 announcement and an April 2017 launch.
