Nintendo Updates Its Top 10 Best-Selling Wii U And 3DS Games; 'Mario Kart 8' Tops Wii U, "Pokemon X/Y" on 3DS
Coco DollangangerNintendo has released its latest quarterly financial results and has also updated the list of the best-selling Nintendo games of all time on 3DS and Wii U following its confirmation that it has ended Wii U's production worldwide. Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said that one of the reasons why the company struggled with Wii U was that there were ‘extended gaps between major releases' something that they are trying to avoid with Nintendo Switch.
According to GameSpot, the ordering of the top ten lists has not changed that much as of Dec. 31, 2016 given the shortage of new major releases through the end of 2016. Only "Pokemon Sun and Moon" is the only exception on 3DS that made it to No. 3 spot, which knocks "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D" off from the top ten.
These combined sales of the different versions of the same Pokemon game with more than 14 million units sold as of Dec. 31. Only "Pokemon X/Y (16 million) and "Mario Kart 7" (14 million) have sold more compared to "Pokemon Sun and Moon" on 3DS, which has now sold about 65 million units.
"Mario Kart 8" has sold over 8 million units and remains the best-selling Wii U followed by "New Super Mario Bros. U" with more than 5 million units sold. The Switch on the other hand, also has 100 games in development, according to Nintendo.
