Nintendo Switch VR Will Be Launched After Issues Are Resolved, Nintendo President Confirms
JPThe Nintendo Switch may soon have support for virtual reality. This has been confirmed by Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima in a recent interview.
In an interview with Nikkei, Tatsumi Kimishima said that Nintendo is studying the possibility of adding a virtual reality support for Nintendo Switch. Kimishima did not however gave a time frame as to when this new feature will be introduced.
Kimishima said that the company must first resolve the issues with playing VR comfortably for long hours before introducing the tech to its newest game console. He also said that the Nintendo Switch, if the issues are resolved, will support virtual reality one way or another.
There are recent reports about Nintendo filing patents that hinted the possibility of VR support. The statements made by Kimishima may indicate that the company is yet to figure out how to introduce the VR tech to switch without compromising the comfortability of its users.
The idea of having VR support for the Nintendo Switch seemed to be initially dismissed by the video game company. In an interview with Polygon, Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, shared his doubts about having Nintendo Switch VR features.
Fils-Aime said that Nintendo have been experimenting with the VR tech for a long, long time. He even discussed that the video game company believes that in order for virtual reality to move forward, the tech must be fun and social. Fils-Aime concluded that, so far, the VR tech is not fun, and it's not social. The statements of Fils-Aime were taken to confirm that Nintendo Switch VR support will not be happening.
However, with the recent statements from the Nintendo President himself, it sounds like video game players may actually get Virtual Reality game experience with the hybrid game console. Nintendo Switch VR support is sure to further boost the sales of the game console.
