Activision announced yesterday that its Skylanders show "Skylanders Academy" has been renewed by Netflix for Season 3 to debut in 2018. The new season's production starts this month, which will still be developed by French production company TeamTO alongside Activision Blizzard Studios.

"Activision Blizzard Studios celebrates the opportunity to bring another season of quality programming to families around the world," Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk said in a statement and added that they are excited to maintain their partnership with Netflix on its Skylanders franchise. GameSpot reports that the renewal took place just before the "Skylanders Academy" Season 2's premiere later this year with "The Guild and Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actress Felicia Day will also be joining the cast voicing the character Cynder - a new cadet with a mysterious past.

Metallica's frontman James Hetfield as well as Oscar winner actress Susan Sarandon are also joining the cast ensemble for "Skylanders Academy" Season 2. Justin Long is also returning as Spyro's voice, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks and Jonathan Banks as Eruptor.

"Skylanders Academy" is based on $3.5 billion of Activision Blizzard's Skylanders game franchise and has brought in new people to it, according to Van Dyk. Reports say that Activision Blizzard Studios is internally developing several other TV projects both animated and live actions.

The studio, managed by both Van Dyk and Stacey Sher launched in 2016 to make original content based on Activision's extensive library of intellectual properties and "Skylanders Academy" is its first production with CEO Bobby Kotick. The unit is the one behind the company's franchises into TV shows and movies and "Call of Duty" films for example, are already on the way. The latest Skylanders game "Skylanders: Imaginators" was launched in 2016 with an annual basis so fans can expect another new game this year.
