‘Overwatch’ News & Update: Custom Game Features & Server Browser Explained
Ritwik RoyIf latest reports are to be believed, "Overwatch" is getting new custom game options and a server browser. The game custom game option has been ineffective until now but that's going to change finally. The server browser and game's custom mode options are now available on the PTR for testing, Jeff Kaplan, the game director, and from the developer team has confirmed. The server browser will allow players to select from custom games being hosted in his/her region. CTF is set to become a permanent custom game option and the custom games will soon grant XP.
According to Kotaku, the features coming to the custom games are increasing Pharah's missile speed, changing CTF, turning on/off individual hero abilities, more customizations on hero ability cool down times, enabling/disabling flag pickup time, changing payload speed, allowing/disallowing individual heroes and changing capture speed on control points. This step in "Overwatch" has long been overdue though the custom options here may not be at par with some other multiplayer shooters.
The "Overwatch" server browser has entered into testing on the PTR and may undergo changes as part of the process. According to PC Gamer, the server browser will have all types of sorting and filtering options to make finding games easier. It will also allow players the ability to run their own unique public or private game servers.
"There are a lot of times where players want to try different things, and play the game in different ways, and it's not really viable for us to put up a matchmaking system where we can feed everybody into everybody's different possible custom games," Kaplan says in the developer update video shared below.
Kaplan has described the "Overwatch" server browser as a "really cool feature." Stay tuned on Mobile & Apps for more updates on "Overwatch."
