It looks like that the anime series "Rurouni Kenshin," one of Japan's most favorite shonen stories is getting a mobile game soon as Shueisha revealed on Twitter that Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga series is set to release on both iOS and Android devices later this year. The game is called "Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Kengeki Kenran" or shortened as "Rurouni Kenshin: Kengekikenran" being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and the game's official teaser site now offers pre-registration.

Crunchyroll reports that the game is described as a weapons action battle. There have been no details about the game just yet as well as its format but a tagline is being associated with it that reads: "I will cut open a path to the future with my sword." Gematsu also says that it will be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.

The game is also expected to sit with a new arc of the manga/anime series that Watsuki created and the new story is scheduled to be published this spring. Moreover, Watsuki and his wife have both published a prequel to the manga arc entitled "Rurouni Kenshin Side Story: The Ex-Con Ashitarō" that was in print between November and December, which follows the story of Ashitaro Hasegawa, who was imprisoned and runs into a couple that turns out to be waiting for him for a long time for his release.

"Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story" or best known as "Rurouni Kenshin" and "Samurai X" is a Japanese manga series created in 1994 by Watsuki and had a contract with Weekly Shonen Jump from April 25, 1994 to Nov. 4, 1999. It was later adapted into an anime series, which was aired in Japan between Jan. 10, 1996 and Sept. 8, 1998.

"Rurouni Kenshin" follows a story of an ex-assassin Kenshin Himura, who spent his life atoning his sins from the past and is determined to move on from senseless violence. It has become one of Japan's most popular shonen titles over the years.
