The HP Curved Envy Review: A Gigantic 34-inch All-In-One Desktop, But Is It Worth The $1,700 Price Tag? See The Pros And Cons

If you're still deciding whether or not the $1,700 price tag of the HP Curved Envy is worth it, you should totally check out this review by Ars Technica and see the Pros and Cons of the gigantic 34-inch all-in-one desktop.

The Pros

A big curved display with a great matte anti-glare finish

The device sports a 34-inch, a 3440 x 1440 display and has 21:9 aspect ratio. HP used an IPS panel that makes viewing angles not a problem and colors are vibrant. The matte anti-glare finish makes the display easy on the eyes no matter what lighting is like, as a glossy finish is not as effective as matte.

Nice integrated speakers

The speaker sounds excellent and gets super loud as it can produce a significant amount of bass. A number of audio presets are available for video and music from different genres.

Good port selection

HP has managed to cram in a lot of ports in Envy's base. It has four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI input and output and an Ethernet jack in the back. On the right, you will see a headphone jack, an SD card reader and a Thunderbolt 3 port which can be used as a DisplayPort output that allows you to drive a 4K display at 60Hz over a single cable.

The Cons

Low-end GPU that doesn't match the screen for gaming

The installed GPU may be adequate, but it's not nearly enough to dub the Envy a "gaming desktop." It's well short for VR gaming or to even play modern games smoothly at the panel's native resolution.

Screen isn't as dense as 4K displays from Apple, Microsoft etc.

The display is not "retina" or 5K-class. So if you like that extra level of detail you can get from 4K or 5K iMacs or Dell's 27-inch 4K all-in-one, this device certainly won't satisfy you.

Fan noise is constant

The fan of the HP Envy constantly makes noise as it always spin at a dull hum, and routinely speeds up and then back down again even when you're just web browsing or using desktop apps. It doesn't compare to the whisper-quiet cooling system that iMacs offer.
